Mac Repair

Although Apples new Mac campaign has led many to believe that Mac's are impermeable to problems that PC's have this is not the truth. I run a Laptop and Desktop Mac and PC repair shop in Northridge California so I can tell you that I see many problems in many machines on a daily basis. In this article I am going to cover one of the most basic yet common Mac Repair problems.

Despite the heat problems a lot of new intel-based Macs are having, Macbook's are now experiencing a common problem with their logic boards (mother boards).

1. I have personally witnessed many instances in which someone will bring in a Macbook that randomly shutdown or blacked-out without response. Sometimes the logic boards need to be replaced, this is a rather costly Mac Repair, but sometimes there is an easier solution, that is what I will cover below.

All you have to do is simply reset your RAM and PRAM.

Resetting PRAM and NVRAM

1. Shut down your computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.

Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.

If you are experiencing problems similar to these and random shutdowns are still occuring frequently even after the resetting of RAM and PRAM, you should take your computer to Apple or a qualified local technician for assistance.
