imovie help with burning to DVD after seeing?

I was looking to help in youtube and I found myself on how to burn an imovie project off to DVD. quesion my .... I have a Macbook Pro and had previously used a Power Mac 5 (I upgraded) anyway graduation videos do so in the new laptop I made a video with iMovie. I found the problem twice. First of all I used to burn my movies (I have maximum time was 20 minutes) would take about five minutes for recording on the DVD with the Macbook Pro, it takes about 45 minutes. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to change a setting? Also once I play burned on a television and the movie is too big for the screen. I called apple and they told me to change my widescreen setting the standard, I did and return to burn the dvd but it is too big for the TV screen. I've never had problems before when using imovie on my mac power, but now with the new laptop, think I am. Do you have any suggestions?
